Third National Workshop of the GMN II Project
Promoting Maritime Decarbonization in Guatemala through Innovation and Capacity Building

  November 11-12, 2025

General Hector Alejandro Gramajo Morales Army Conference Center, Guatemala

The decarbonization of the maritime sector is a global challenge that requires urgent action and strategic collaboration.

In this context, the MTCC Latin America, within the framework of the GMN Phase II Project, implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and funded by the European Union (EU), in conjunction with the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP) and the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs (DIGEMAR) of the Ministry of National Defense of Guatemala, invites all key stakeholders in the maritime sector in Guatemala to participate in the National Workshop: "Promoting Maritime Decarbonization in Guatemala through Innovation and Capacity Building."

This event seeks to strengthen national capacities to accelerate the transition to more efficient and low-carbon maritime transport. The workshop will bring together a wide range of stakeholders in the maritime sector, including government authorities, industry representatives, academics, environmental organizations, and international experts, with the purpose of sharing knowledge, experiences, and concrete solutions.

Key Topics:

  • Explore innovative strategies to reduce GHG emissions in line with global climate goals.

  • Advance the decarbonization of maritime transport in Guatemala by focusing on practical energy efficiency and alternative fuel technology solutions.

  • Financing opportunities for sustainable projects.

  • Promote gender equality in maritime energy efficiency initiatives.

Phase II of the GMN Project aims to continue promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the maritime sector, particularly in developing countries. Led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The project builds on the success of Phase I by enhancing the capacity of the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centers (MTCC) in the five regions, where MTCC Latin America plays an important role in promoting energy-efficient technologies and operating practices, supporting the development of policies aligned with IMO decarbonization goals, and facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among maritime stakeholders globally.

This national workshop in Guatemala is part of the GMN Phase II Project's commitment to promoting energy efficiency and the decarbonization of maritime transport, aligning with IMO's 2023 Strategy on GHG reduction.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the change and contribute together to the sustainable and inclusive future of the maritime sector in Guatemala and the Latin American region.

We will continue working together to promote safer, more efficient, and sustainable shipping in Latin America with the active participation of all stakeholders, leaving no one behind.
